Here's quick list that I guarantee will give you enough power to hit 15's on a 1999+ Grand Am

-get 5spd option
-2.3HO intake manifold conversion
-crank pulley lightened
-59-62mm throttle body
-2.5inch catback exhaust
-battery relocate to trunk
-custom cold air (straight shot to fender:angel2: )

for more fun add:

-msd ignition programmable (play w/ 2step rev limit options)
-ported exhaust manifold
-secret cam swap
-port polish head w/ upgraded valvetrain and larger valves

and its alots money too.

why not just get some slicks

that will help more than reloating the battery

lol:D

get 5spd option
-2.3HO intake manifold conversion
-crank pulley lightened
-59-62mm throttle body
-2.5inch catback exhaust
-battery relocate to trunk
-custom cold air (straight shot to fender )

this is not expensive this the prices i have paid

2.3 ho intake and throttle body $300
crank pulley and alternator pulley $260
catback exhaust $300
custom cold air intake less than $80 (new filter included)
battery to trunk less than $100

you can find an HO intake for less than $80
you can get a throttle body for under $300
you can get a lightened pulley for less than $200
you can get a catback exhaust for less than $250

these are definately not expensive modifications and will solidly put you in AT LEAST mid 15's...

I haven't had a chance to try this setup on a track yet.. as I am getting an engine rebuild.. but let me tell ya I'll be at the track at sea level this year to make certain people who doubt STFU..

and to you people with smart ass comments.. please delete your posts and STFU...

these are modifications any 2.4 owner should seriously do if they consider doing performance modifications on their ride...

im with you spy......im planning on making a fast lil 2.4
i need to get to the track down here soon to see where im at now
so far i got
ID CAI
RSM ceremic header
2.25" custom exhaust with magnaflow muffler
and H&R springs

whenever i decide to stop being lazy and get another job im gonna add a throttle body and ported intake and then get a good head job :-)

so where do you think im at in the 1/4? and how much hp at the wheels?

SpyhunteR
07-09-2003, 08:30 PM
somehwere around 140 to the wheels +\- 5hp....

just a note to everybody... that list is easy 15's for even bad drivers.... so get a clue you gotta mod if you wanna run faster and better. .... best modification you can ever do is keep your car in good running order and practice .... those two will guarantee you consistancy and the full potential of your vehicle come in the blue...

I know for a fact that 2.4's w/ 5spd manuals can easily do 2.1-2.3 60fts w/ just good technique

why a v6? just double it to a v8. i think a 502 would do wonders in a grand am

he he he. I was looking at 502s on GMpartsdirect the other day...

Right, so a battery relocation, though a good mod (I'm working on it right now) will hurt your 1/4 if anything. Think FWD... Good list though. Also if you're insane a 2.3 HO head will boost your compression to 11.4:1 which should help your times :D Needs a bit of tuning to run good though ;)

the battery relocation is a great idea.. gives you more room to throw other crap up front... less complicated intake.. woah woah woah...

Good point. That's one of the reasons I'm doing it.

or you could keep the twin cam and keep beating the 5.0 and its 16's...i've seen lots of stock fox 5.0's running high 15's and low 16's. Thats not worth getting rid of your GAGT...especially getting into a ford from a GM. Its more of a sidestep.

2.4, intake, manifold, header, exhaust, and a nice little 35shot of NX...will get you a 15.1 or so.

Does anyone know what the RSM stage 2 S/c would run on a otherwise stock GA? That should be good for 15s right there.

engine management on the RSM kit sucks.

mthegodfather
07-19-2004, 03:20 PM
What kinda engine management system do they use?

last I heard... an FMU..

Who else has a S/C kit forsale othe than RSM. I wouldnt want a turbo because i gotta stick with my automatic.

GM has one, but it's only got a PCM for the 99-04 GA's... you could get a custom reprogram though... but you gotta talk to a bunch of local shops for that.

azeniskid

or you can run an fmu along w/ 2.3HO injectors.

Ok so this weekend i think im finally going to put on the HO manifold that has been sitting in my room since like march. Now when i go to port match it how should i do this, i keep hearing conflicting things, one person says just give it the bshape, then someone says give it the bshape plus add materal and so on. I was planing on doing th bshape then taking off materal on the intake ports of the head to match up with the bottom of the HO manifold ports. Also what are ALL the parts i need. so far i have an EGR block off plate and gasket, 95 throttle cable braket, manifold and TB, manifold and tb gasket . Im going to buy the crank case breather. Thats all i can think of now.

But basicly i want to know how to port match it the right way and all the parts i need. b/c im getting really confused.

azeniskid
07-29-2004, 04:29 AM
buy gasket material....

have it match your head exactly bolt holes and all.. buy enough so you can do it over if you **** up....

do your bolt holes on the 2.3HO manifold... than you'll know exactly what needs to be done to the manifold to make it match up perfectly...

mthegodfather

Let us all know how the install goes and what kinda power you pick up from the install.

azeniskid

he wont' pick up anything w/o complimenting modifications...

Yeah very true. Im just gonna hold out and get the induction dynamics intake. Have they announced the price yet.

Cool, i bought a breather filter for my crank case vent. i hope this APC one will work for that. I was going to do it this weekend but it looks like its raining all week, and i have to change my breaks so the minute it stops raining i have to do that. i guess ill do it next weekend

Probably like a year ago they were looking for about 10 people or maybe 8 to buy it at the special price of like 1200 with a normal price of like 1400 or so. You would probably be better off trying out the venom intake or just and HO intake. Or even making your own.

Plus their manifold apperiantly only fits their head they make. so thats like 2600 or something.

mthegodfather
07-31-2004, 04:06 PM
Damn that is really high.

azeniskid
08-01-2004, 08:48 PM
it's optimized for their head, whatever.

If you look at other companies selling manifolds like that you'll find out that the price is rather competitive.

Oh yeh the VENOM intake sucks.

Does anyone even have the Venom intake? I dont think ive ever seen it on someones car.

think of it as a heavier version of the stock intake, w/ the ability to port it out due to it being of a metal substance.

A friend of mine had one on a Prelude and it wasn't anything special.
