ouch don't be surprised if they total that, its hard to tell from pics if there's frame damage but its not worth fixing a 10 year old grand am. I'd say thats at least 3k worth of damage right there, new hood, new bumper, new headlight, new bumper support, new fenders

From the Insurance Company's point of view, its a total... that is what Greg was saying. Once a car is beyond 5 years old, the likelyhood of them totaling the vehicle out is heavily increased. Simply put, the repair of the damage will cost more than a 1999 Domestic car is worth. The insurance company would find it cheaper to write you a check for the market value of the car pre collision than to fix it.

Anyways, I would say it would cost at least 2500 dollars for only aftermarket parts. My G5 ran about $2600 to fix, and that was without structural damage (Only the bumper, hood, fender, radiator and A/C condenser).

i kno what he said and i also knew that after i saw how bad the car was...but its something i dont wanna hear..so i threw it back at him:D

ne way...i got the radiator and condensor with front bumper and trans oil pan from the junkyard for $188.which included some other parts my sis needed...
then for the front subframe and hood i paid another 85$..
so far in parts ....273$
plus the trans filter and gasket from the dealer..$50

im still waiting to hear how much the shop was gona charge me..last time he gave me a price..was for straightening the frame out..$500..
so he needed to cut the busted frame and weld the new on after that cost...
im hoping he wont charge more than 700$..

btw..that car didnt hav full coverage, only liability,,and i hit a pole...i ddnt get its ins info

If you have the new-ish subframe, why would the mechanic need to cut the old one out and weld a new one in? He can just unbolt your existing subframe and bolt the new one on, unless that one is bad too.

if you cn see the from the pic..its not the whole front subframe..but a section..hes gona remove only the front portion at the weld points and reweld that part..hes lagging..but ill post pics as soon as i get the car bak..which im hoping is tomorrw

update..after 3weeks...he charged me 700$..time was not an issue at all.

it looks kinda cool with the black hood...i just need to replace the radiator and trans pan and the bumper cover..which are all in my garage..

sorry for the shitty nite pics...ill def be taking more tomorrw

so today i replaced the radiatr and trans pan and replaced the front bumper cover and lights....runs..but is low on trans fluid and the battery/alternator are low.. that gets a half:)..
oya..the left fender is pretty straight..the right is more bent than i first thought...the part he welded on is a tad too short so the hood latch kinda hits the bumper cover..but owell shes all better now

yea...i wanted to snatch the rear bumper and the trunk lid..but soemone was working on that when i got there...if only i had shown up an hour earlier....

the bumper isnt bad..but hte hood has some harsh scratches

Blackhawk

How deep of scratches? Scratches are easy to get rid of with some All Metal filler. Even getting it down to bare metal will get rid of quite a few.

Looks like they're just down to primer, at least 95% will come out when you sand it to bare metal to reprime. The rest may be filled with a good building primer and some wetsanding, or you can use USC All Metal.
