Hi,
I currently have a 1991 2.3/5spd car that I have just put on the road (bought it for $100 with a bad head and severely beat bearings).
I put a replacement engine in - from my brothers old car.
I was able to drive for a week before the crap hit the fan...
Long and short, I hace connecting rod problems.
I changed out the old bearings, cleaned everything, and measured the crank to ensure I instaled the correct bearings.
-I realised ahead of time that this fix doesn't always work.
I still have the knocking, but it is fairly quiet....
I changed the oil again, and currently have 20/50 with some additive to thinken the oil - I have done this in an attempt that the oil will take up that extra clearance...
Has anyone heard of a quad four car that was reliable for any extended period of time with connecting rods being noisy??
...looks like the old engine has to be machined 'schnell'

You do realize that no engine is reliable when its broken right? If you really like the car, fix it ASAP before it gets worse and you destroy the entire engine.

Thanks... since this is a spare, and it's already "hurt" I'm not too worried.

I know that I have heard of other cars (especially Dodge Shadows) driving forever-and-a-day with a knock... so I was curious if any one else has had one of the s cars 'knock' for a while...

The thicker oil helps me limit my rev's to about 2500rpm.

I had mine rebuilt Jan or 2002. I was told they have a strong bottom end, but while it was out I got a chance to see the motor out of the car after it had been resurfaced. The piston holes are big enough for me to put my fist down. I'm 6'1" so as you may guess the piston's are big. I can't see it lasting long with that kind of compression.
