Six speed, but close enough, only real walkthru for the swap to a manual I believe.

In the Aurora/cadillac community alot of guys opt for a Northstar for smoth reliability and performance. Many of these cars already come equipped with a 4.0 or 4.6, but there is almose zero aftermarket for them and the people that are buying these cars arent really buying them to mod anyway, however the people that do enjoy modding generally opt for a Grand Prix GTP or Bonneville SSEI to mod. Much like a 3400 vs. a 3100...kinda two totally different animals with two different goals. I have been scrolling through this sight and have noticed alot of talk about the 4t60e-4t65e....I had a 4t65e in my Bonneville SSE and it gave me alot of issues, but I could just be unlucky. I know the 4t65 is pretty beefy. If it can handle 280 (more like 300) underrated lb/ft of torque from an L67, it should be fine with a 3.1, 3100, 3400, assuming it bolts up. Besideds, Im pretty sure they still make shift kits and aftermarket parts for it. I believe INTENSE racing is one of the big aftermarket providers for that transmission.

And Red se is correct about the 4t65e being a pos as well. Im not sure if all of them had it, but I know at least a few L67 GTP's had a 4t65hd...its able to take a good beating. I wonder if a 4t80e (3.71 final drive ratio) would work? That transmission can take an absolute beating, but its very heavy and I dont know what mods are available for it...its a pretty smart transmission as well as it "learns" how the driver drives. If you drive aggressively, it will begin to shift quicker and more precise. Probably wont work but just a thought.

That's the PCM that's learning how you drive, not the transmission. The GA PCM is like that too, especially if you disconnect the Neg on the battery for 10 minutes.
