Painting UIM
ok, so i just got a P&P UIM from Tom. I finished up the polishing on the outside of it and i don't know if i like it polished. I think i might end up painting it red or black. For the most part i just wanted it to be smooth and not have the casted texture. What do you guys think? paint or keep polished look. The 3400 SFI is already shaved off of it so i cant paint that a separate color.

Id still say Leave it Polished cause It does cost a good bit polished and you know theres not many other polished UIMs that I know of. Its gonna catch peoples eye. Alot of people have painted UIM, Keep it Poilshed.

ya, but there are very fine scratches on the top part and i don't know how to make a mirror finish on it. If i do keep it polished i wanna do the same to my strut bar that is black, but chipping.

I dont know how much it would cost but Do some research and find some places that do Chroming, and have it and the strut bar chromed. That would be badass

chrome would looks sweet, but wouldn't they just dip it in the chrome? What about the internals of the UIM the chrome would get into them spaces that i dont want plated. unless they can close off the openings.

If you're going chrome/polished just polish up the intake and look into clear powdercoating. You'd just have to mask the gasket surfaces and nothing would get inside.

I have watched people do powder coating and how they block the ports. i belive with chroming they would do the same.

There is a powder coat that has a chrome look. You could also get transparent paint so it has color and the polished metal shows through.

Do some more sanding to get the scratches out, and buy some of the Aluminum and Mag Polish that Cody showed you, it'll make it shine so much more than that chrome polish (I have the same stuff).

150 grit worked to remove the scratches for mine, I went over it with 600 but barely, and the polish did the rest of the work.

ya, i used 150 and 100 then 800 for the major scratches, but i didn't touch the top of it with 150 since i bought it with it already pretty smooth, bu not perfect.
