my mishaps at the track.

so yesterday i went to the track to have my car tuned. we get there and meet mark from mpr. he hooks up the tuner and sees that i have a misfire, so he says he cant tune it. whatever, not his fault, i shouldve told him. so there was like 15 cars there, they let us move the number from my car to the trans am. go to make my first run in the bird. ive never raced a rwd with that much torque, so i didnt warm up the tires. as soon as the green light drops, i hit the gas. ass end kicks out so i let off the gas. as soon as it grabs, i hit the gas again and i hear something pop, so i baby it down the rest of the way. on the way back to the time booth, i notice the cars not shifting. at this point im a little freaked out. drive it around the parking lot and its still not shifting, so i tell my friend and my gf who went with me that were leaving. as were leaving the track, i put it in one, everthing is fine, bump it up into two, and it just revs. basically second gear and od are gone. time for a new, built
4l60. instead of paying it off in the spring, itll be getting a new trans.

2nd Gear and OD are gone? Sounds like a 2/4 clutch. Or a seal in the Valve body for that clutch.

Serious bummer. Are you gonna rebuild a trans. Get new or Get used?

Yup. Those 4L60s SUCK for that reason. Tons of these fail and will continue to fail even with a built tranny.

Sorry to hear about it.

What was with the misfire on the GA? Usually you can tune them out unless there is a fuel problem.

mark said the fuel pressure regulator is bad. so im gonna go with that. apparently the vaccum line is not supposed to smell like fuel and mine does. and i think a level 2 performabuilt trans is in the future for the bird. i dont think thatl ever break.
