The Good
103k i found out why my trans was shifting wonkey. It has been leaking fluid for a while. The metal/rubber gasket dry rotted. The one that came with the filter kit was just rubber, and it sucks. I still have the same slow leak, but the trans shifts like butter now It does not clunk as loud going into gear. I will be replacing it with a dealer metal/ rubber gasket. Not alot of metal was in the pan, but was a nice layer of sludge.

The Bad
My water pump in leaking, and has been leaking for a while. But it never leaked on the ground. But i see it where is was leaking out the weep hole.

my '01 SE turned 111,111 (miles) the other day. i cringe typing this because i don't want to jynx it but the only thing i've replaced on the engine has been the water outlet! im thinking about doing some new plugs and boots soon too.

i had the trans rebuilt at 106k because it was shifting really rough, turns out there were a couple of internal problems (little chunks of metal, broken springs) inside. but the engine itself has been great!

i just had her inspected a week ago and the first thing the mechanic said to me was "that's one of these f***ed up Quad4's with the water pump!" but after he inspected it he said it looked great and i was good to go. he said just watch the engine heat, and when the water pump goes, get rid of the car because the job is too expensive. so we'll see how long she lasts.

131,6xx Miles on my 97' SE. When I bought it in summer 2005, it had 104,xxx miles. I mainly used it to commute back and forth to school.

I'm hoping to clock many more miles in the future. Especially now since I have new struts, control arms and tires.

I have a 98 se with only 70k on the 2.4. It's a little goofy now and then but still has
a nice kick to it. Only had to replace plugs once, about to change the first belt this weekend. What do you guys average around the city? I usually get around 220-280 miles a tank of mostly all city driving.

212k+ on the original motor and tranny. Still running strong and shifting right. Really, I've been quite fortunate in the repair department. All new set of lower control arm bushings, new tie-rod ends, new waterpump and gasket, new exhaust manifold flex pipe, that's about it.

The waterpump is a bugger, but be sure to get it done right. It was about $550 at my favorite mechanic. Figure you get a new waterpump, gaskets for the pump and timing chain cover, and in my case someone you trust looking all that timing crap over. My pump lasted just over 200k so compared to the more economical, belt-driven waterpumps, it lasted quite a long time.
