aux input on an '01

I've been searching on this subject but it's very confusing for me. I want to have an aux input in my '01 grand am gt without installing an aftermarket HU. I have dual 10 inch subs with a high low converter hooked up right now and after market rear speakers which are both hooked up to an amp (probably irrelevant). I was reading to install the aux2car device you need to have a factory accessory install. Do I have one of these? This is what my HU looks like:

So what would you guys recommend?
Thanks for the help

You don't have a factory installed accessory, the only factory installed accessory is satellite radio, which didn't come out until '02 or '03. You could find an XM-capable radio on eBay (hopefully it comes with the box), or you could just find an mp3 radio and burn your collection on an mp3 disc.

the fix patches into the regular internal CD player, not the CD changer line in... you would need to do is insert a CD and plug your MP3 player into the AUX jack.... sweet eh!?

Thanks for the quick replies, if i were to splice the wires could i just use a generic 3.5mm cable and splice that in? Instead of buying that thing from radio shack. I have no money lol

Just save up, a dime a day will pay for it in a month. Just skimp on buying that coffee in the morning or one pack of smokes and you can buy it. Trust me, don't rig something in the name of money, you'll probably have to redo it later. It may work but I've had problems in the past with headphone cables not working after cutting them.

of course you can- but make sure it is a quality 3.5mm cable.

You need to make sure that you tie a knot/create an obstruction in the cable to prevent it from being pulled out from inside the deck

That picture is not for all decks, use a pair of powered speakers and test out the connector till you find the right/left/ground

Only thing you need to worry about if the cd cable is a ribbon then it is a lot more difficult- You can then of course solder it from underneath but you get the idea...

The radios shown are both stock radios. His looks different because they changed from 1.5 DIN to 2 DIN after 2000.

lol i bought that thing from radio shack i want it to look nice it was just i'm too lazy to go drive over there but it looks nice so does anyone know the exact wiring for my radio? It would be very helpful because i'm not really sure how to test the speakers. Would i just take a powered speaker and touch the metals to each other? or what do you recommend?

There is 3 wires you need to find

Ground
Left Channel
Right Channel

If you were to have the leads of 1 powered speaker it should be a (+/-)

you would leave the - on the first "metal" (
then touch the other wire to the 2nd "metal" (if you hear no sound bring the 2nd wire to the 3rd "metal" and keep going till you hear sound- if you don't move the first wire to the 2nd "metal" and touch the 2nd wire to every other contact- its just a hit/miss game

it might take you 5 minutes to find it.

Pin 1 - Ground - connect to the stereo chassis
Pin 2 - Left Channel - wire from CD connector on main circuit board
Pin 3 - Left Channel - wire coming from CD player module
Pin 4 - Right Channel - wire coming from CD player module
Pin 5 - Right Channel - wire from CD connector on main circuit board

alright so I figured out which speaker went to what wire here are my results for anyone who wants to know

It was similar to yours rhobby_J just the one wire the left speaker was on was black kinda weird i wonder why that is. I'm going to solder tonight I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks all you guys for the help especially rhobby_j

also there is shielding around the 3 wires the middle one is the ground that comes out of the shielding

Read JamakinJoel post up a few-

says which channels are left and right and which are ground for your deck

to get it into the headphone jack you would have to do some soldering
